Hatfield Business Park organise walk on the wild side for local school

24 June 2025

Leading property group Goodman, which owns, develops and manages Hatfield Business Park, organised a walk on the wild side through Ellenbrook Fields for local primary school, Howe Dell School, on 24th June 2011 for the children to learn about the animals and habitats that flourish there.

The 5-6year olds enjoyed a morning nature walk through the area which is owned, developed and managed by property group Goodman. Ellenbrook Fields are now home to a range of habitats which support a variety of wildlife such as Longhorn cattle, barn owls and deer.

The school were accompanied on their walk by a local Maydencroft farmer who gave the children at Howe Dell School the opportunity to see and feed some of the Longhorn cattle that graze the fields. The children also did some sketches of the animals and surrounding area.

Whilst on their walk, the classes looked at some of the low nesting boxes which Goodman installed along the trail to see if any birds have made a home in them. The three tall nesting boxes have been home to kestrels this Spring and some lucky children caught a glimpse of these birds leaving their box.

Richard Potter, Property Services Director for Goodman commented, “Goodman developed and restored the land at Ellenbrook Fields so that it could be enjoyed by the local community, as a natural haven. We are delighted to be able to organise a nature walk for local schools to explore and use as a basis to learn about the animals and environment around them.”

Goodman own, develop and manage Hatfield Business Park as well as the surrounding land which includes Ellenbrook Fields. These were opened up for public use in 2009 following extensive clearance and restoration of the land by Goodman.
